Different types of Collaboration

There are many different ways to collaborate.  Watch the videos below to share your thoughts on how well these animals worked together?  Was it positive?  Or not so much?

How Mindfully do you see?

In MindUp, the Owls had a go at organizing the following colours into order of hue.  We had to really focus to see the subtle differences in colour... can you do it?

Programming the clown!

Hassan:
Today in Islamic studies, Mrs Matthews taught us how to program in the GO software programme!
It was an amazing experience learning this and there were many things I didn't know. Programming is the best!!!

Arish:
As I entered my Islamic classroom today, I guessed that we were going to be doing the normal, which is searching on a topic which we were not that aware of, however, how very wrong did I end up. A usual period turned out to be a total astonishment. An extremely kind and polite teacher Mrs Matthews came all the way from Aldar H.Q to the primary bit of the school in order to teach us a bit about algorithms. At 11:15 on the 17th January 2016 I had not the tiniest amount of a hint about what this was. In fact, I was not even enthusiastic to learn anything about algorithms at all. As a clueless student I made my way in the classroom, with completely no idea, that I will be leaving the class with enough information to teach 1000 children 2000 different things about algorithms. Algorithms, which I recently from Mrs Matthews, is a set of instruction used in programming. Along with the definition, I also learnt that that there is a software called GO SOFTWARE. Of course, there are many things to algorithms such as process, flow lines, out put, in put etc. These are all as boxes while you are using them. In GO SOFTWARE I learned that you could programme your very own set of instructions (algorithms). Isn' t that awesome! Well, in my opinion I really enjoyed this lesson and over all I wish to have it again. Thank you!!!  :)

Super stretchy maths today!

Today in maths some of us learnt how to divide a decimal by a decimal.  For example, do you know how to work out 3.2 divided by 2.9?  Or our 'super stretch' question of 2671.23 divided by 2.1?  Do you know how to solve questions like this?  We learnt a strategy to help us solve questions like this.  The strategy was really helpful and was quite easy to learn.  We all achieved this and feel great!

Some of our other maths learners are revising what we have learnt by planning a workshop for other students.  We're excited to share this learning with you all!

Zohaa, Ryana and Aisyah also set a super, super stretch challenge which is stretching our brains to solve.  Even Mrs Hodson had to get her thinking cap on to find the answer!  Can you solve it?

47 + (9 x 2) - 76 x 4 / 3 + 74 x 3 + 9^4 - 6 + 7^3 - (7 + 2) = ??

PS: 7^3  means 7 x 7 x 7 or 7 cubed or 7 to the power of 3.

Choco Tasting

On Sunday 10th January 2016 the yr 6 owls class went on a chocolate taste testing mission. This was no ordinary taste test it was... Blind taste testing. The whole class was split into 6 groups to go on their Aztec voyage.

Some were bad yet some were delicious. Whilst tasting the chocolate they had to write down the taste, the look and the feeling. Are these chocolates good enough to get past their judging taste buds? The 6 flavours were 90% dark chocolate, 85% dark chocolate, 70% dark chocolate, chili chocolate, milk chocolate and finally the white chocolate.

The best (told by the class) was the milk, white and  dark spicy chocolate.

Which one would you buy? Bye for now and have a chocotastic day!
