Poetry: Intro to Kennings

This week we're taking a look at kennings, a traditional Icelandic poem.  Today we learnt what a kenning is and in groups, had a go at creating our own.

Can you work out what creatures each group wrote about?

  1. I really like the words you have used to describe the animals! My favourite is the last one - I had to think very carefully about what it could be. I wonder if I will see any more of your poems on this thread...Keep up the good work!

  3. Hello people from all over the world! My name is Farah hand I am one of Al Yasmina's year 6 student. My teacher is Mrs Chant, Mrs Chant came all the way from Auckland, New Zealand. I'm only one of 125 other children and I'm pretty sure that plenty other kids will be posting and commenting other stuff to keep you updated about our learning. BTW make sure you listen to my friend Zoha's amazing kenning and the other kennings that we made in our English class. Hope you enjoy this blog!
    Bye:)

  4. Hello Farah, it sounds like life in Year 6 is pretty exciting!
I listened to Zoha's kenning and really loved the way she thought about her performance and used her voice to help the audience understand the meaning of the words. Do you think listening to a poem is better or reading a poem yourself?

  5. I think it's better reading it so that you can see yourself exactly what is written and I love reading anyways. Actually we are about to have our guided reading class started now.
